RESERVATIONS

Q: Just wondering if I could book a ferry from Nassau at short notice or do I have to make reservations? 

A: We advise all our customers to process their bookings at least two days in advance. Providing that space is available on the day of travel, we suggest that passenger’s check-in at least one hour prior to sailing.

Q: I want to book a ticket ferry from Nassau to Pink Sands Beach and return. Do I need to buy tickets in advance, or can I buy them when I arrive in Nassau?  If I need to buy in advance, can this be done by email or credit card over the phone?

A: We advise that bookings are made at least two days in advance. Should you purchase tickets on the day of travel we advise that you check-in no later than one hour prior to sailing.

Yes, tickets can be purchased online (click here) via credit card. However, the credit card being used must be submitted along with a valid ID at the time of check-in. The booking may also be processed over the phone at 242-323-2166. The Ticketing Agent will also require that you provide the credit card used to process your booking along with a valid ID. Q: I would like to know if I can reserve two first class tickets on the ferry?

A: At the time of tickets being purchased there is an option to upgrade to “Voyager” or First Class. This option is only available when sailing via Bo Hengy III. For further assistance, please email info@bahamasferries.com.

Q: Is luggage free on the ferry? If not, what is the cost? Are there restrictions?

A:

  • Each passenger is allowed one small carry on. The carry on must be able to fit comfortably under the seats. Carry-ons are not to be kept in seats. 
  • Each paying passenger is allowed two free checked pieces – weight up to 45 pounds. (Restrictions apply).
  • Passenger extra luggage cost begins at $12 per piece. Oversize luggage and any luggage paid at the vessel begins at $25 per piece.  These items are to be properly packaged for shipping.
  • Anything over the two pieces will incur additional fees.
  • Any meat item not properly packaged will not be accepted.
  • All coolers over 48 quarts are considered as oversize and must be shipped as freight.
  • Bicycles, Surfboards, Windsurfers, are considered as oversized luggage and must be shipped as freight.
  • Televisions, AC Units, Batteries, Car Parts, Construction Materials, Speakers, are some of the items considered as freight. 

Bahamas Ferries reserves the right to determine if an item presented as luggage can or cannot be accepted as such.

Q: What happens if I lost my ticket?

A:  Tickets are e-tickets and can be reissued with identification at the time of travel. If the ticket is stolen, we recommend that it is reported to the police. Please also make us aware so that we can place a hold on the tickets.  All tickets are valid for travel for one year from the date of purchase.

Q: What is the policy for changing or cancelling a reservation?

A: Tickets may be changed with no penalty if done prior to the date of travel. Should the date of travel pass, there will be a penalty to reissue each ticket. The reissue fee is $21.00 per ticket.

ABACO

Q: How do I get from Freeport to Treasure Cay? 

A: We offer a freight service with limited vehicle capacity into Abaco from Freeport once a week. Click here for details.  

Q: Do you go from Nassau to Marsh Harbour? When do you leave?

A: We provide a freight service only from Nassau into Marsh Harbour. This sailing departs on Saturdays. 

ELEUTHERA

Q: If I wanted to travel via ferry from Spanish Wells to Nassau is there a ferry? How long would the trip take and how much is it?

A: There is ferry from Spanish Wells by medium-speed ferry on Fridays to Sundays. The trip from Spanish Wells into Nassau is an estimated 2 hours. The cost is $250.00 per adult and $180.00 per child (2 – 11 years) for the roundtrip travel, and $135.00 per adult and $100.00 per child (2 – 11 years) for one-way travel taxes includes.

Q: I would ask if tomorrow there is a ferry to Harbour Island?

A: There is ferry to and from Harbour Island by medium-speed ferry on Fridays to Sundays. The cost is $250.00 per adult and $180.00 per child (2 – 11 years) for the roundtrip travel, and $135.00 per adult and $100.00 per child (2 – 11 years) for one-way travel taxes included.

Q: Could you please tell me when a ferry might travel between Eleuthera and Abaco?

A:   We do not offer a direct ferry service between Eleuthera and Abaco. We offer a ferry service from Nassau into Harbour Island and Spanish Wells, Eleuthera.  We do not offer passenger services into Abaco.

Q: I would like to know the timetables from Nassau to Harbour Island and return?   The ferry arrives near the Pink Sand Beach. Can I go to the Pink Sand Beach by walking?

A:There is ferry to and from Harbour Island by medium-speed ferry on Fridays to Sundays. The cost is $250.00 per adult and $180.00 per child (2 – 11 years) for the roundtrip travel, and $135.00 per adult and $100.00 per child (2 – 11 years) for one-way travel. The vessel arrives at the Government Dock; however, the beach is within 15 minutes walking distance.

Q: Is there a service to Harbour Island available after midday?

A: Unfortunately, there is only one sailing available which departs Nassau at 8:00 a.m.

Q: Can I charter a ferry for a party of six to Eleuthera?

Q: What happens if I lost my ticket?

Q: What is the policy for “No Shows for travel?”

A:

  • A passenger who will not make a sailing once they have a booking confirmation, must make a request to change their reservation no later than 24 hours prior to travel.
  • A ticket once purchased is still valid and can be rebooked, once notification has been received that the passenger is unable to make the booked sailing within the allotted time. 
  • Any passenger who changes their reservation will incur reissue fees as well as any changes to the cost of the ticket at the time of reissue.
  • Any passenger who has not given notification within 24 hours will lose the full value of the route of the booking for all NO SHOW passengers.
  • Should a passenger not be able to make the sailing, acceptable notice is via email or confirmation by phone. 

EXUMA

Q: What is the cost of your tickets to Exuma?

A: Unfortunately, passenger services to and from Exuma are not currently available.  

Q: Do you travel to the Island of the Swimming Pigs?

A: We do not sail to Big Major Cay, Exuma, home of the swimming pigs. We do sail from Nassau for George Town, Exuma on Mondays. However, this is only a freight service currently.

Q: I was wondering what ferry to take and how much it would be if I wanted to go from my hotel in Nassau (hotel Malia) to the pig beach in Exuma.

A:  Unfortunately, we are not providing passenger ferry services to and from Exuma currently.

Q: Is there ferry service from Nassau to Great Exuma on Saturday?

A: Unfortunately, we do not provide a passenger ferry service to Exuma.

GRAND BAHAMA

Q: What are the prices and times from the Grand Bahama to the Exuma in Staniel Cay?

A: We do not provide a passenger ferry service between Grand Bahama and Staniel Cay.  

Q: Is there a ferry that runs between Nassau area and Freeport area?  What is the cost?  

A: We do not offer a passenger ferry service between Nassau and Freeport, Grand Bahama.  We offer a freight service into Freeport departing Nassau on Wednesdays.

Q: Where in Nassau do you sail from and where to in Freeport?

A: Bahamas Ferries terminal is located on Potter’s Cay Dock which is between the Paradise Island Bridges. Bahamas Ferries is located at Freeport Ship Services in Freeport, Grand Bahama, on Peel Street and the vessel departs from the main Harbour, which is located on Queen’s Highway.

Q: What is the schedule for your Freeport to Nassau ferry in January?

A: We depart Freeport, Grand Bahama on Thursdays for Nassau. This is not a ferry passenger service, but a freight service.  Please contact us at info@bahamasferries.com for further information.

Q: Do you travel from Freeport to Marsh Harbour?

A: We depart Freeport, Grand Bahama on Thursdays. This is a freight service onlyWe depart Nassau to Marsh Harbour on Saturdays.

FREIGHT

Q: Do you ship vehicles? How much are they?

A: Yes, we ship vehicles to all our destinations (Abaco, Eleuthera, Exuma, and Grand Bahama). The size of the vehicle and the destination would determine the cost. Getting to Potter’s Cay Dock Terminal

Q: How do we get from Nassau’s airport to the dock?

A: Bahamas Ferries is located on the western end of Potter’s Cay Dock. Travelling east from the International Airport onto West Bay Street. The entrance to Potter’s Cay can be found after passing the inbound bridge to Paradise Island and before the disembarkation bridge from Paradise Island. Driving onto Potter’s Cay Dock, make a left at the T-junction and drive west. Our Freight and Ticketing Offices are the yellow buildings on the right. The operational hours are Monday – Friday between 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and Saturday between 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The Check-in Office is located further up on the left. The operational hours are Friday – Sunday between 6:30 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. All offices are closed on Public Holidays.

Q: How long does it take to get from Nassau airport to the terminal?

A: The drive from the Lynden Pindling Airport to the Bahamas Ferries Terminal at Potter’s Cay Dock is an estimated 45 minutes – 1 hour drive depending on traffic.

Ferry from Miami to Nassau or Freeport

Q: I’d like to know how much the tickets cost and which port does the ferry boat leaves in Miami to Nassau?

A: We do not offer a passenger ferry service from Miami to Nassau or Freeport.  We offer passenger ferry services between Nassau and Spanish Wells/Harbour Island only. Q: Please can you tell me if there is a ferry that takes you to Atlantis Resort from Florida?

A: Unfortunately, we do not provide a passenger ferry service between Florida and Atlantis Resort.

Q: Do you charge a reissue fee for vehicles?

A: Yes, there is a reissue fee for vehicles – $75.00 VAT Inclusive and commercial equipment – $200.00 VAT Inclusive to all ports.

ANIMALS/PETS

Q: Do you allow dogs on your ferries between islands and if so, what is the cost? Are there any restrictions?

A: Yes, we allow dogs to travel on the outside deck. The dog must be in a kennel or on a leash. The cost for dogs begins at $18.00 and up depending on the size of the dog. If the dog is being sent as freight, we are unable to provide this service to Freeport or Abaco.

GROUP DISCOUNT

Q: Do you offer group discounts?

A:  Yes, we offer a group discount for 20 people or more travelling roundtrip together. Advance bookings of one week is required. The group discount does not apply during black-out periods (holidays and regattas). The group discount does not apply to vehicles. Click here for details.
