The monetary donation, raised through a charity golf tournament held in the hostel’s honour, will go towards assisting administrators at that institution with their daily operational costs.

This donation is the latest in a number of contributions Bahamas Ferries has made to The Bahamas Children’s Emergency Hostel since adopting the institution in November 2005. The company has established a committee specifically mandated to coordinate support initiatives for the not-for-profit organisation, including charity events and seasonal events.

To date, Bahamas Ferries has provided over $78,400 in cash and in-kind assistance to the hostel. These funds have been instrumental in assisting The Bahamas Children’s Emergency Hostel with facility repairs and providing necessary items, such as food and clothing, for some 30 children who reside there. Additionally, through the generosity of Bahamas Ferries employees who contribute a portion of their salary to the hostel, the company is able to partially subsidise The Bahamas Children’s Emergency Hostel’s utility bills and employee salaries.

President and Chairman of the Board of Directors for The Bahamas Children’s Emergency Hostel Arthur Peet said that the assistance from Bahamas Ferries has been a tremendous blessing over the years considering that operating and maintaining the hostel costs an average of $350,000 annually.

“We are very grateful not only for the donation, but we are grateful for the partnership that has been developed between Bahamas Ferries and The Bahamas Children’s Emergency Hostel over time. They have been a great source of support financially and otherwise to the home and we look forward to a strengthening of that relationship,” Mr Peet said.
